League Rules

Adult hockey league games are designed to provide a fun, competitive, and community-oriented environment for players of all skill levels. While league play encourages teamwork, sportsmanship, and competition, the safety and respect of all participants must always remain a priority. The following rules and guidelines are in place to help ensure a safe, organized, and enjoyable experience for players, officials, spectators, and staff both on and off the ice. By participating in Winterhawks ICE Center adult hockey leagues, all players agree to uphold these standards and contribute to a positive environment for everyone involved.

Adult Hockey league Rules

For everyone's safety, all patrons agree to abide by the following facility guidelines

No. 1

Game slots are 1 hour and 15 minutes long, consisting of three 20-minute running-time periods. The final two minutes of the game will be stop time if the score differential is two goals or fewer.

No. 2

Ties will be settled with a three-round shootout. If tied after three rounds, the shootout will continue in sudden-death rounds. If there is still no winner after five total rounds, the game will end in a tie. During playoffs, games will feature a five-minute sudden-death overtime period prior to the shootout. The sudden-death shootout will continue until a winner is determined.

No. 3

Players must wear full equipment, including an approved helmet.

No. 4

Fighting and misconduct penalties will result in ejection from the current game and suspension from the following game. A second fighting or misconduct penalty will result in a two-game suspension. A third fighting or misconduct penalty will result in expulsion from the league and forfeiture of league dues.

No. 5

Any player receiving five penalties in a single game will be ejected from that game.

No. 6

Substitute players are not permitted. Only players listed on the official team roster may participate in league games. Goaltenders are the sole exception to this rule.

Payment Policy

All participants are required to check in and complete payment at the front desk prior to entering the ice surface. This policy applies to all skating and hockey activities, including private lessons, public sessions, freestyle sessions, camps, clinics, and league play. Individuals who have not checked in or paid before the start of their session will not be permitted on the ice.
