code of conduct
Freestyle sessions are where skaters come to push their limits, refine their skills, and share the ice with others who are doing the same. While the environment is meant to be focused, productive, and enjoyable, safety and respect must always come first. The following guidelines are in place to ensure that every skater, coach, and spectator can train in a space that is organized, fair, and safe for all. By participating in freestyle sessions, you agree to uphold these standards and contribute to a positive training environment both on and off the ice.
Skater and Coach Conduct
No. 1
Freestyle sessions are for teaching and training. The Director of Skating reserves the right to monitor the level of skating on each freestyle session and make appropriate changes when necessary.
No. 2
Skaters must sign in at the front desk prior to entering the ice. Names be printed clearly.
No. 3
Freestyle sessions may not be split between two sessions or surfaces to accomodate lesson time.
No. 4
Anyone who has not paid will not be allowed to skate a session.
No. 5
Coaches and skaters are not permitted on the ice at any time during an ice resurface. Please exit the ice promptly before the ice resurfaces. Zamboni doors must be closed prior to skaters entering the ice. DO NOT enter before the session time.
No. 6
For the skaters' safety, skaters are not permitted to wear personal headsets of any kind while skating in a freestyle session. Coaches are permitted to use hand-held music systems.
No. 7
Always give the right of way to skatesr in a lesson or skaters doing their program.
No. 8
Abusive or obscene language/music will not be tolerated.
No. 9
All skaters and coaches must pick up tissues, garbage, water bottles, etc. on rink boards and players bench after their session.
No. 10
All session times are subject to change. Reasonable notice of changes will be posted wherever possible.
No. 11
No food or drink is allowed on the ice with the exception of water or sports drinks kept near the benches.
No. 12
Refrain from comments or actions that are disruptive, offensive, abusive, or racist. Behaviour that constitutes harassment or abuse will not be tolerated by the Winterhawks Ice Center.
No. 13
All programs, classes, camps, and clinics are run and approved by rink management. No coach is allowed to organize or teach a group of more than two (2) people without management approval.
Parents Conduct
No. 1
Parents must view freestyle sessions from the bleacher area or lobby area.
No. 2
Parents and spectators are not permitted in the player's box area.
No. 3
Be in control of your emotions.
No. 4
Parents are not permitted to coach from the bleacher or lobby area. Parents need to parent and coaches need to coach.
No. 5
Refrain from comments or actions that are disruptive, offensive, abusive, or racist. Behaviour that constitutes as harassment or abuse will not be tolerated by the Winterhawks Ice Center.
Payment Policy
All customers/participants who enter the ice surface and participate must pay a fee. This includes participants in private lessons (both hockey and skating). Payment shall be made BEFORE the start of each session.
PRIVATE ICE COACHES: Any coach (independent contractor or employee) giving a lesson (hockey or figure skating) to a customer who has not paid will be suspended and/or terminated immediately without exception.
