Public Session
code of conduct

Public skating sessions are designed to provide a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for skaters of all ages and skill levels. Whether you are stepping onto the ice for the first time or returning for a fun recreational outing, we ask all guests to remain aware of those around them and help contribute to a respectful and safe environment. The following guidelines are in place to support the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of all skaters, spectators, and staff both on and off the ice. By participating in public skating sessions, guests agree to follow all posted rules and directions provided by Winterhawks ICE Center staff.

General Ice Safety

No. 1

All skaters must skate in a counter-clockwise direction unless otherwise instructed by rink staff.

No. 2

Excessive speed, racing, horseplay, tag, and unsafe behaviour are not permitted.

No. 3

Groups may not stop or rather in one area of the ice surface.

No. 4

Throwing snowballs or any other objects is strictly prohibited.

No. 5

Chains of more than two skaters holding hands are not permitted.

No. 6

Figure skating maneuvers are not permitted during heavily attended sessions.

No. 7

Parents and guardians may not carry children while on the ice surface.

No. 8

Strollers are not permitted on the ice.

No. 9

Skate at your own risk

Facility Conduct

No. 1

Patrons are expected to remain courteous and respectful toward all guests and staff while visiting Winterhawks ICE Center.

No. 2

Vulgar, abusive, disruptive, or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated.

No. 3

Fighting or misuse of the facility may result in immediate removal and suspension of future facility privileges.

No. 4

Sitting on the boards or entering the scorekeeper’s box is prohibited.

Ice Resurfaces & Entry

No. 1

Skaters are not permitted on the ice surface during ice resurfaces.

No. 2

Guests may only enter the ice once instructed by staff and after Zamboni doors are fully closed.

Equipment & Personal Items

No. 1

Food and beverages are not permitted on the ice surface.

No. 2

While wearing skates, guests must remain on rubber flooring when off the ice.

No. 3

Only service animals are permitted inside the facility.

No. 4

Personal skating aids are not permitted during public sessions, only rink-approved skating aids are permitted.

Payment Policy

All customers/participants who enter the ice surface and participate must pay a fee. This includes participants in private lessons (both hockey and skating). Payment shall be made BEFORE the start of each session.

PRIVATE ICE COACHES: Any coach (independent contractor or employee) giving a lesson (hockey or figure skating) to a customer who has not paid will be suspended and/or terminated immediately without exception.
