LEARN TO SKATE
Winterhawks ICE Centers offer Learn to Skate programs tailored for skaters of all ages and abilities. We take pride in providing a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment where every skater can develop a strong foundation and build a lifelong love for ice skating. Guided by our qualified coaching staff, skaters are introduced to the fundamentals of skating through structured instruction focused on confidence, technique, and skill development.
Winterhawks ICE Centers are proud members of Learn to Skate USA. Our year-round Skate School follows the nationally recognized Learn to Skate USA curriculum, endorsed by USA Hockey, U.S. Figure Skating, and US Speedskating. Designed around a clear and progressive structure, the curriculum has been further tailored to meet the specific needs of our skating community while emphasizing FUNdamentals in a safe, fun, and stress-free environment.
Each level is designed to help skaters improve technique, gain confidence, and enjoy the learning process while developing the skills needed to continue growing in hockey, figure skating, speed skating, or recreational skating.

OUR COURSE SEQUENCE
Skaters are sorted into one of three series based on their age at the time of enrollment:

Mini Hawks Series - For skaters between the ages of 3 and 5 years old.

Basic Skills Series - For skaters between the ages of 6 and 14 years old.

Adult Series - For skaters ages 15 and older.

In each series, beginning-level skaters learn basic safety, balance, and foundational skating skills. As skaters progress, they can begin following one of two developmental pathways based on their interests: Figure Skating or Hockey.​

As skaters develop these foundational skills, they can progress toward one of two pathways:

Figure Skating Pathway
Skaters continue developing their skills through the Learn to Skate curriculum, progressing into Free Skate as they begin learning more advanced figure skating skills. From there, skaters can continue into Aspire, our bridge between Learn to Skate and Inner Edge Academy, our advanced athlete development program. Skaters interested in team skating may also pursue Synchronized Skating.

Hockey Pathway
Skaters interested in hockey can transition from foundational skating instruction into Learn to Play, which introduces hockey-specific skating and playing skills and prepares skaters to continue into our Youth or Adult Hockey programs.
