The Portland Jr. Winterhawks are excited to announce the appointment of Bobby Reed as their new Hockey Director for the 2025-26 season.
Bobby brings a wealth of international experience and passion for player development to the Portland Jr. Winterhawks. With over a decade of leadership in hockey and education, Bobby has successfully built hockey programs from the ground up across North America and Asia, blending elite hockey training with a strong focus on character development and youth engagement.
Most recently, Bobby served as the Athletics Director and Hockey Director at Branksome Hall Asia in Jeju, South Korea, and previously held similar roles at Chadwick International School. His innovative work has extended beyond the rink—leading physical education programs, mentoring student-athletes, and presenting at global conferences on coaching and leadership.
A former professional player with the Tulsa Oilers and Fayetteville FireAntz, Bobby also served as a Player/Assistant Coach and Team Captain, demonstrating his ability to lead by example.
His coaching credentials include certifications from Hockey Canada and the Korea Ice Hockey Association, and he’s been a featured speaker at The Coaches Site and multiple international athletic conferences.
In addition to his on-ice achievements, Bobby holds a Bachelor of Education degree with a focus on Physical Education and Social Studies and a Bachelor of Human Kinetics from St. Francis Xavier University. He’s been involved with youth hockey at every level, serving as the Director of Youth Hockey Development in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and partnering with USA Hockey and Defending the Blueline to support military families.
Bobby’s coaching philosophy centers on creating a competitive, development-first environment where athletes are challenged to grow as players and as people. He believes in fostering a team culture built on hard work, accountability, and respect—values that fuel long-term success both on and off the ice. With his international perspective and commitment to youth development, Bobby is excited to help shape the next generation of Jr. Winterhawks.
The Portland Jr. Winterhawks organization is thrilled to welcome Bobby to the Jr. Winterhawks family. He will officially begin his duties as Hockey Director on July 1, 2025. We are excited to see the growth, development, and positive impact his leadership will have on our players. Go Hawks!
